“七夕”在网上有很多种翻译方法：
Qixi Festival(七夕节)，Double Seventh Festival(双七节)，甚至Magpie Festival(喜鹊节)。
其实这些翻译都有舍近求远之嫌，不了解中国文化的外国人是不会明白的。
下面我们来学习一段前些年的BBC新闻，看一看“七夕”如何翻译比较好。以下新闻摘自BBC官网(节选)

类似情况，“梁山伯与祝英台”其实翻译为Chinese Romeo and Juliet(中国的罗密欧与朱丽叶)就可以了。
“单身狗”一词最早是出自网络社区，起源与大话西游有关，在大话西游之大圣娶亲最后一幕有一句经典台词：“他好像一条狗”。
同时，单身狗在词义上有自贬和自嘲的意味，带有诙谐的网络用语色彩。单身狗一词的流行是普遍的社会现象和网络时代的传播特色共同助推形成的。
那么“单身狗”应该用英语怎么说呢？很多人想说single dog。因为dog在英语里可以指“不得志的人”，如英语谚语“every dog has his day”（凡人皆有得意时），这个和“人人都有走狗屎运的时候”对应，这里的dog就有点“不得志；不如意”的味道。
但是，“单身狗”史上最牛的翻译非damn single莫属！
下面是权威解释（摘自Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English）：
【例】Everything was so damn expensive. 东西都真TMD贵。
【例】The band sounded pretty damn good. 这个乐队演得真TMD好。
damn在这里是一个副词，非正式，并且有点不太礼貌，相当于中文里的“真TMD”，修饰形容词，
所以可以说damn expensive（真TMD贵），damn good（真TMD好）等等。
因此，可以说I'm damn single，意思为“我还TMD单身呢”，正好和“我是单身狗”对应。single在这里是形容词，意思为“单身的”。
I'm damn single之所以是史上最牛翻译在于：
1. damn说出了单身狗的无奈与自嘲；
2. damn作为副词修饰single符合英语语法；
3. damn single和“单身狗”发音类似。
因此，damn single绝对是一个神翻译！
